Trainee Marine Engineers Selection- 2009

Eligibility criteria:-

  1. Nationality : Indian

  2. Qualification : B.E./B.Tech (Mechanical / Naval Architecture) full time course with minimum 55% marks in aggregate of all the semesters from an AICTE approved institution. (The AICTE approval must cover the entire 4 years of the course)

  3. Age : Born on or after 02nd December, 1981.

  4. English : Minimum 50% marks in English in Std. X or XII.

  5. Eye Sight : Minimum unaided (i.e. without spectacles or contact lenses) at least 6/12 in each eye OR 6/18 in bad eye with 6/9 in the better eye. Normal colour vision (tested by Ishihara test chart).

  6. Medical Fitness : Medically fit for sea service as per Director General of Shipping (DGS) rules

If you are appearing for the final year exam of your B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical or Naval Architecture, or have appeared and are awaiting your results, you are eligible to apply, provided you meet the remaining criteria.

Please write ‘Trainee Marine Engineer Application” as subject in the email

Selection test:-
The selection is conducted jointly by Wilhelmsen Ship Management and Institute of Maritime Studies, Goa. Once we have received your Application Form by email, following an initial scrutiny, you will receive an acknowledgement email.
The admit cards for the written test will be sent to the eligible candidates by email from the Institute of Maritime Studies, Goa (IMS). The admit card will give details about the seat number, timings and the address of the test centre.
You will be required to take a printout of the admit card, affix a photo, and bring it along with you when you come for the written test. It will be signed by you in the presence of the invigilator during the exams. The admit card will be collected by the test centre and later used for identity verification at the time of the interview.

Written test:-
A written test will be held at Mumbai, Goa, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Kochi on 9th August 2009 (Sunday) at 1000 hrs.
The address of the written test centre, time and seat number will be mentioned in the admit card sent by email to you.

Selection Process - Interviews:-
On the basis of the written test, candidates will be short listed for personal interviews to be held at IMS Goa from the 14th to 17th September 2009.

The list of the candidates along with the interview schedule and venue will be displayed on the websites of International Maritime Training Centre & Institute of Maritime Studies, Goa.
The candidates will also be informed by email at the email address stated in their application form. You are thus requested to regularly check your emails. You will be required to confirm your acceptance to come for the interview.
The cost of travel and lodging etc during the written test & interview will have to be borne by the candidate

Documents required at the time of interview for determining eligibility: (original + 1 set photocopies)

  1. Mark sheets of all B. E / B. Tech (Mechanical or Naval Architecture) semesters

  2. B.E / B.Tech degree certificate, if available, issued by the University. Provisional degree issued by the University may be submitted if Final degree is not yet received. Provisional certificate issued by the college is not acceptable.

  3. Class X & XIIP School Passing certificate and mark sheets, indicating date of birth and marks in English.

  4. Five passport size colour photographs (in white shirt with light background - 3.5 cm X 3.5 cm) with name written on the reverse side.

  5. Certificates for any additional course done, extra curricular activities like sports / NSS / NCC/ Scouts etc.

  6. Candidates who have appeared for the qualifying examination (i.e. B.E / B.Tech) and awaiting results should bring a certificate from the appropriate authority stating that their results are awaited.

2 Written Entrance Exam.At Mumbai, Goa, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi 9th August, 2009, Sunday 1000 hrs
3 Results on website and 17th August, 2009, Monday
4 Interviews, Psychometric test Interview schedule will be placed on above websites. 14th to 17th September 2009 Monday to Thursday
5 Display of the list of selected and waitlisted candidates, at interview centre , followed by detailed briefing 18th September 2009, Friday
6 Medical examination and certificates verification for selected candidates only 19th / 20th September 2009
Saturday/ Sunday
7 Briefing of the selected candidates 23rd September 2009
